February Fun

This was true for maybe one day
On the 14th, we headed to Yummies
for breakfast on South Padre Island.
Then we drove around the island.
The weather was cool and windy
as you can tell by the high waves.
After a fun "Zoom" call from
the kids and grandkids, we had
angel food cake and strawberries
with Jerry and Wendy and Dennis and Nancy.
Pretty clever personalized box of chocolates
On Monday, the power went out and
we had no water, so Bob decided to
go out and check the crops. This is
the sugar beet factory in Santa Rosa.
This combine looks like a monster
with big teeth!
We followed a beet truck to find the field
that was being harvested.
When the cart is full, it unloads into a big
truck which takes it to the factory.
The power came back on Thursday.
On Friday, the UND hockey team
played Omaha and won.  The guys
watched the game at Jerry and Wendy's,
and we played Farkle at our place
and almost finished the second box of candy.
On Sunday, the 21st, we got our
second Moderna vaccination. We
got up at 4 a.m., drove to Los Fresnos,
got parked by 5:42, and received
our shots at 9:25.  Afterwards, we
went to Yummies for breakfast
with Jerry and Wendy.
Got up early on the 28th and
made strawberry jam...didn't
have enough jars, so I used a glass.
We drove to South Padre Island
to check out the turtle rescue place.
During the cold weather, they
rescued 2000 turtles, had to warm them
up slowly, and later released them
all back into the Laguna Madre
This alligator swam into the bay
by the turtle rescue building.
I thought these cormorants were statues,
but they started moving...just enjoying the sun.
Afterwards, we drove to the
State Park at the south end
of the island, and Bob rode his
bike up to Clayton's at the
north end.  I picked him up
an hour later and we went
to the Brewery to eat.
