January 2021: Hope for a New Year

We went to Mass at the Basilica
in San Juan
And then to Ann's Restaurant
There were two other people having breakfast!
Here's to a New Year!
Bob in his New Sweater; New Mask;
and New Mimosa! :-)
One of Julia's classmates has been
exposed to the Covid, so....
her entire class is home for two weeks.
Uni helped Julia read
"The Owl Diaries" book 1.
I think Julia looks like her mom
in this picture.
Can you see me taking Julia's picture?

Bob saw something on the news about
the Covid vaccine, so on Tuesday night
he took our vehicle to the place just one
mile from us to get vouchers for
people over 65 and left the car overnight.
Brother Jerry picked him up. On Wednesday
morning, Jerry and Wendy drove us all
over and we got into our vehicle to get our
vouchers. We were only 50 cars back.
We found out that the vaccine
would be give in Los Fresnos on Thursday.
We left for Los Fresnos at 4:30 a.m.
and at 5, they started lining up the
vehicles in a huge parking area.
After 45 minutes,
we were about ten rows in, with
approximately 40 cars in each row.
The fire station in the background
is where they gave the shots.
Around 8 a.m. we were in line at Station 6.
There were three tables with four people
giving shots at each.
Got shot at 8:30
Didn't have to get out of the car.
Success!!! Back to the park at 9.
We go back for #2 on Feb. 18th.
I can't believe that 29% of the
healthcare workers don't want
to get vaccinated!
Bob drove down to Port Isabel three days
to watch the rocket launch (which was
scrubbed all three times).  I went with
him on day 2 and 3.  After waiting a
short time on day 3, we went to Denny's
for breakfast.
Then we headed to the end of the road
on South Padre Island
We had a windy week, so the dunes were high.
A new housing area is proposed;
Someone anticipated cold weather
and brought his own energy source.
We drove to the State Park/campground
at the opposite end of the island. This is
the new amphitheater
and the beach in front.
Bob rode his bike around the park, and
I walked and explored.
This memorial is dedicated to all the
fishermen who passed through this
bay and never returned. Their names,
death year, and name of their boat
is engraved on the plaques.
The lighthouse is carved into the
back of the memorial stone.
Someone was flying a kite
The wind created high waves, but lots
of people were fishing and sunbathing.
On the way home we stopped at
the Davey Jones ice cream store
which has great mint-chip ice cream. :-)
Day 4:  We saw the #10 rocket being moved toward
the launch pad before we left the island.
It is rare to see two rockets on the launching
pad, so the next day we drove down
to Space X at Boca Chica to get some photos.
Launching site
Can you get an idea of the size
by comparing it to vehicles?
You can see the base of Rocket 10 here.
This photo doesn't look real, but it is!
Latest word is that they might launch
on Monday, but FAA has not approved it.
