March-ing On.....

We went to Port Isabel to watch the S10 rocket
take off from Boca Chica across the bay. We left home
around 8:30 a.m. The launch time was uncertain.  They
started fueling and said the launch would be at 2:30,
but that was aborted.  So...we left and Bob got a haircut
in Port Isabel. Then we went to Pelican station to eat at
about 3:00. The waitress told us they thought there
would be another attempt at 4:30, so after we ate,
we went back to our parking spot.

March 3, 2021 takeoff!
Up, Up...
and
away....the black spots are birds...you don't hear
the sound of takeoff until about 20 seconds later.
I think the birds freaked out when they heard it!

almost lost in the clouds
starting to turn
around
turning
coming down
for what we thought was
a perfect landing....so we started to drive home
and missed the explosion afterwards!

Trying to beat the wind headed our way this week.
Can you find the ball?
Trip to the beach on Nancy's birthday, March 24th
The tide was so high that it came right up to the car.
Sea gulls were going crazy....

After the beach, we headed to Dirty Al's to eat!
On the 26th, we headed to Port Isabel
to see another shuttle launch, but it was scuttled.
So, after getting ice cream at Davey Jones' Locker,
we took the "back trail" home.
The Yuccas were blooming everywhere.
Some were super tall.
The back road led us to San Benito,
home town of Freddy Fender.
Sunday, March 28th road trip
with Jerry and Wendy and Dennis and Nancy.
First stop...SpaceX to see the S11.
Blastoff is supposed to be today, March 29th.
Jerry drove down Highway 4 to Boca Chica beach
(Matamoros is in Mexico; we are in Texas.
Brownsville is across the bridge from Matamoros.)
to the Rio Grande estuary...to the right of the vehicles
is where the Rio Grande goes into the Gulf of Mexico.
Lighthouse tower and vehicles are in Mexico.
On the way back, we took a side trip
to the Rocket Ranch. Jerry had heard
about this campsite when the last
rocket took off. The announcers were
on a boat from the Rocket Ranch.

We stayed in the car.....
Shed building has a shop and bathrooms with showers
The shop...The maintenance man said that we could
ride in the pontoon boat to watch the rockets blast off.
Jerry checked online when we got back, and the
cost of the ride is $350.00!
After our adventure, we drove up to Port Isabel to eat
at the Pelican Station on the Madre Laguna bay.
I made a new friend while waiting for a table.
We forgot to take a picture on Nancy's birthday,
so we took one here at Pelican Station.

Bob was the tour guide on the way to their condo
We got into the pic with Don and Chloe
They had to see Clayton's, of course
and went to the north end of Padre Boulevard
where we saw a large group horseback riding on the beach.
At the Padre Island Brewery, Bob talked most of them
into trying oysters.
They had an oyster-eating lesson, of course,
and then, "down the hatch".
