August Already??

Our water bill was over $200 last month ($70 normally)
because I had to water the garden too often...no rain!
I dug up my potatoes on the 8th..the plants were dead.
Lots of flowers on the cukes, but no cukes...yet.
The beans are almost "has-beans," but the tomatoes
are pretty healthy. The garden is as stressed
as the farmers during this drought.
We went to Lake Metigoshe on the the 13th.
Brenda and Curt stopped by on Sunday, the 15th.
We bought our camper at the lake from them. They
visited us in Texas a few years ago and discovered
that Curt's Aunt and Uncle lived in the park next
to ours.
After supper we went to Lulubelle's
for ice cream. It's a new place at Twin Oaks.
This is on one of the table covers.
Nephew Brad and Maureen, Kimber,
Haylee, and Elliot came across the lake
in their boat for ice cream, too.
Friday's storm brought us 3" of rain and lots of wind
that flattened my cornstalks in the garden. I propped
them up with tomato cages because the wind also
blew the tomatoes off the plants!
The Germans from Russia building
was open for the museum fair
on Sunday, August 22nd. A generous
donation from the Valentine and Alice
Brossart family made this project possible.
Wall of the history of the Germans from Russia.
Bob built the bench.
Some of the items found in an early home
Display walls with German newspapers and artefacts
Bob built these moveable walls. He is in the middle here
talking to visitors about family histories
Iron cross and list of surnames of Germans from Russia
families from the area around central North Dakota
The family of Valentine and Alice Brossart was featured
for this event. Family members shared photos and
many other items displaying their history.
August 23rd, first day of school in Iowa.
They look  really excited, don't they???? :-)
On the 24th, we headed to Medora.
Teddy Roosevelt entertained us
when we arrived. Then we headed for
the pitchfork steak fondue dinner before
going to the amphitheater for the musical.
The neon moonlights greeted us before the show began.
A fun night of song and dance
The closing patriotic scene.  We stayed in our
pickup camper at the Medora Campground
and had breakfast at the Cowboy CafĂ© the next day.
We stopped in one of Jimmy's fields en route to the farm.
Cristian, Herman, and Anderud were getting ready
to take the three trucks to the grain elevator. Bob
drove Jimmy's pickup back to the farm, and
I followed with our pickup and camper.
First day of school in ND, August 25th. Andrew, grade 10;
Matthew, 7th; Grace, 5th; Luke, grade 1;
Mary Kate, age 1.
Luke and Grace rehearsing for their play.
Mary Kate decided to sit down on the
bags of cat food.
Matthew's 4-H first-prize project made from clay.
The arms and legs fell off after Achievement Days.
Grace's second place 4-H project--there was a hole in the
back of the hen for the egg!
Kelly's sister and brothers came home for their uncle's
wedding and added six adults and seven more kids
to the gang! Lots of fun watching them play, ride around
on the four wheeler, and put on a play for us later that day.
We went up to the lake on Sunday, the 29th,
for a pickleball club meeting, potluck,
and to play pickleball.  One of the ladies
brought "pickleball cupcakes" :-)
Monday's walk brought me close to a "deer friend"
August 30th: First day of school in McLean...
guess who isn't happy about it! :-)
